Among many areas of research at the Institute of Magnetism one should emphasize the works on the experimental investigation of magnetic compounds with a perovskite structure. Photo by electronic microscope Electronic properties of these materials which have been finding wider and wider application in recent years can change from insulating to conducting, even to superconducting and unique magnetic states can occur.

The recently discovered colossal magnetoresistance phenomenon in perovskite manganites is now under investigation in the Department of Thin Films of the Institute. Magnetoresistance vs Temperature and Composition Modern experimental equipment is used to study the electric and magnetoresistance, AC susceptibility and DC magnetization in the temperature range 77 K - 370 K.

The complex system of measurements includes precision analog electronics, 12 - bit high performance ADC/DAC producted ICPDAS(Taiwan)and the computer block of the processing of experimental results, operating in the Real Time Mode (realized in several operational systems). Field strengths up to 1.8 Tesla can be created by means of water cooled electromagnet coils providing excellent field stability and uniformity.

Experimental equpment Measurements of all types of materials (thin films, single crystals, bulk solids and liquids) are available now.
